Many people have been given or denied jobs because of their English language level. CEFR level C1 is the mark of a fairly advanced user that is capable of easily working with natives with mutual understanding, on even fairly complicated topics, the large majority of the time. The CEFR framework offers general statements about what a learner should be able to do at a particular level, it’s not always clear where a learner may fall in the framework. You’re score on Cambridge exams can be helpful.
The following is from the Cambridge site:
The grade you are awarded depends on the score you achieve.
There are set scores for each grade:
|CEFR Level B2||45–59||B2|
- Certificate in Advanced English – Level C2
Exceptional candidates sometimes show ability beyond C1 level. If you achieve grade A in your exam, you will receive the Certificate in Advanced English stating that you demonstrated ability at Level C2.
- Certificate in Advanced English– Level C1
If you achieve grade B or C in your exam, you will be awarded the Certificate in Advanced English at Level C1.
- Level B2 certificate
If your performance is below Level C1, but falls within Level B2, we will recognise your achievement with a Cambridge English certificate stating that you demonstrated ability at B2 level.
