Let’s Make a Deal: To Stick or Switch, the Monty Hall Problem Part 1

Created by John Hanes

1. You’re on an evil and twisted gameshow where there are 3 doors and you have to choose which to open. The doors are labeled 1, 2, and 3 and you don’t know exactly what’s behind them.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. One of the doors has $1,000,000 behind it that you get to keep if you pick the right door.

The other two doors have ferocious and ravenous lions that will kill you as soon as you open them.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. Which door do you choose: 1, 2, or 3? Take a second and choose.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. As soon as you choose, the gameshow host opens a door you didn’t choose, which shows a lion. He then offers you a deal to stick with your choice or to switch to the other closed door.

no problem John, it is much clearer now, I am going to use this lesson today. When A lesson actually interests me it is a pretty good sign my students will like it too.

Cool, I’m glad. And if there are any themes you’re interested in let me know and I’ll try to work them in. More upper level stuff though, there are already plenty of good sites out there for lower levels. Thanks for helping me out with the proofreading.

John part 4 – you need to make it clear that the host opens one of the doors you didn’t choose
